Why I built this

I'm a Christian dad, and I got tired of wincing every time a word came up in a show I was watching with my daughter. Pausing, skipping back, covering her ears — it was exhausting. And I realised I'd grown numb to language I didn't actually want to grow numb to.

So I built Streaming Word Filter. It watches the captions on your favourite streaming services, catches the words you've chosen to filter before you hear them, and adds a brief visual overlay so the moment passes without the jolt. You keep watching. Nothing else changes.

It's built for families and faith-based households who want cleaner viewing without giving up the shows they enjoy.

What it does

Real-time filtering

Reads captions as they appear and mutes the audio the moment a filtered word is detected. A brief overlay covers the screen, then playback continues.

You pick the words

Use the included preset lists for profanity and blasphemous terms, or build your own. Add and remove words any time from the popup.

Auto-enable captions

Filtering needs captions to work. The extension can detect when they're off and enable them for you on supported platforms.

Private by design

No account, no tracking, no data leaves your device. Everything runs locally in your browser.

Fully customisable

Adjust overlay colour, opacity, and how long each mute lasts. Make it feel like part of your viewing experience.

Lightweight

Minimal impact on performance. The extension only activates on supported streaming sites and stays quiet everywhere else.
